Parent Information Letter

About AYSO:
AYSO is a nationwide non-profit organization that develops and delivers quality youth soccer programs in a fun, family environment based on AYSO's Five Philosophies:
Everyone Plays - Our program’s goal is for kids to play soccer—so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.
Balanced Teams - Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible—because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.
Open Registration - Our program is open to all children between 4-1/2 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.
Positive Coaching - Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment by the players and ultimately leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players.
Good Sportsmanship - We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.

Schedule:
February
Regional staff will make Team and Coach assignments after the final registration session.
New and returning volunteers will be contacted and volunteer training will begin.
March
Coaches will receive their rosters, team uniforms, equipment and will begin contacting the parents to plan team meetings and practices. Practices will start the week of March 19. The first game will be March 31.
April
Fundraising forms must be turned in by April 28. There will be a table at the soccer field on April 21 and 28 with a board member to collect the forms and money. The money for the bread must be collected in advance.
May
There will be no games on May 12 due to the Norton Recreation Track Meet. Games will conclude May 19 with the annual hot dog picnic.

Getting dressed for game day:
The referee will conduct an inspection of the players before each match begins and will be checking for the following:
Uniform - Players must wear their complete uniform including shirt, shorts, socks, appropriate shoes and shinguards.
Shinguards – Shinguards must be worn and should be covered by the player’s socks.
Jewelry – No jewelry of any kind may be worn, including chains, watches, bracelets (including friendship bracelets), necklaces, earrings or bandannas. Hair restraints may be worn as long as they are soft and do not contain any hard or sharp parts. Any medical information bracelets or similar items should not be removed but should be taped or padded.
Shoes – Shoes can be any athletic type shoe. No slip on or zippered shoes. Velcro shoes are permitted. Players may wear soccer cleats, which are designed with rounded rubber cleats with no protruding side or toe cleats. Football cleats containing sharp or metal cleats cannot be worn. Soccer cleats typically have two cleats near the toe of the sole, while other styles of cleats will have a single toe cleat.
Eyeglasses – Prescription eyeglasses may be worn, but sunglasses or non-prescription glasses may not. Eyeglasses should remain firmly on the players head or restrained with a strap.
Casts – Hard casts including padded casts, splints, helmets and hard padding are not permitted during any game or practice.
Braces – Players with permanent orthodontic braces should be encouraged to wear a mouthguard to avoid injury.
Additional clothing – Players may wear sweatshirts, sweatpants, jackets, or extra layers of clothing underneath their uniforms as they need to stay warm on cold mornings. There should not be any exposed zippers, or any hard or sharp surfaces and pockets should be empty. Stocking caps and soft gloves may be worn but not baseball caps, fishing hats or earmuffs.

These measures are for the safety of the players and any items not mentioned above will be at the discretion of the referee to permit them on the field.

Game Cancellation:
In the event that the games need to be cancelled, an announcement will be made on KQNK radio. Every effort will be made to announce the cancellation by 8:00 am.

AYSO Kid’s Zone:
AYSO National rules and regulations prohibit the use of any alcohol or tobacco products in the vicinity of the fields during practices and games.
